North Plains – Parent Night Oct 17, 2014
North Plains elementary school held their Parent’s Night on Friday
Oct. 17. It was a night reserved for VHFLC students to bring their parents
into their typical experience during after school care... and they definitely took full advantage.
Before the kids got carried away in all the fun, they spent time avoiding the
rain by playing games in the gymnasium, jumping rope and getting out all the energy they'd stored up during the day. This also gave them ample time to pepper
us with questions, especially after finding out that one of us holds an
interest in Pokemon and video games. We managed to wow them appropriately
before Parent’s Night officially began.
The students waited in anticipation for
parents, peeking out of windows and pointing excitedly when someone was spotted.
Once parents started arriving, students sat in a semi-circle as their peers
read books to one another, engrossed in the story. One book in particular was
exceptionally engaging: Marsupial Sue Presents "The Runaway
Pancake" by John Lithgow (Yes! that John Lithgow). This book came with
an accompanying CD that had kids listening, responding and singing along to the
story!
Following the sing along,
students and their parents were invited to participate in creative games and
activities that were set up around the room. Students could take and decorate pumpkins,
create jewelry, or even munch on snacks. Parents shared in their children's excitement as they all sat down and got a better understanding
of just what it is that kids enjoy about VHFLC.
We want to give a special thank you to VHFLC Regional Supervisor Jana C., who made sure we made it out to North Plains for this fantastic event!
Join us again soon for apple tasting at Bridlemile! We can't wait.
