Rocks Rock!

Bridlemile teachers are going above and beyond with this comprehensive and interesting lesson and look into rocks.  Discussing where they are formed to their uses in our day to day life, students learned a lot about the earth around them.
They started out by investigating about the different types of rocks that can be found.  Metamorphic, Sedimentary and Igneous rocks are the categories they are classified into.

This basic explanation set the foundation for understanding the various elements they were seeing in the examples.  Several examples were brought in for the students to look at and explore.

The crystals were the favorite of many of the students.  Being able to see the examples close up and the different structures they form gave the students a more in-depth view and understanding.  Many people are hands on learners so the combination of visual, verbal, and hands on made sure everyone felt included.

To wrap the lesson up the group talked about the different ways we use various minerals in our day to day lives.  This was followed up with a small oral quiz to see what they remembered and learned.

The learning doesn’t stop when the bells sounds.  Here at Vermont Hills our teachers are constantly coming up with new and fun ways to help students learn.   Remember to stop by to see what other amazing things the students will create or participate in, and leave a comment below.
