A Day at St. Luke

Greetings and Happy New Year!   Hopefully, the first week of 2018 is treating you and your family well.  For this post we will be taking a look into one of our ECE programs, St. Luke.   We will be talking about the history, seeing what our students are up to, and giving you a glimpse into an average day.

Our St. Luke location has been running since the Fall of 2009.  It provides care from 7 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, from infants to Pre-K, year round.  It is run out of the St. Luke Lutheran church.  At this location, we have our own dedicated classrooms and a great little area outside to play in, along with inside areas for group play when the weather is less than favorable.   This program has strong connections to the community, local businesses, and the St. Luke Church family.  From events held by us to those put on by the surrounding neighborhood, we strive to integrate into the lives of the community we are impacting.

Most our ECE programs have the children divided up by age and ability.  There is an infant class, wobbler, toddler, preschool, and pre-k.  The toddlers are 2-3 years of age, and the preschool is 3-4 and potty trained.  Pre-k classrooms are 4 and up and going into Kindergarten the following year.  Every day follows a schedule that provides structure for the children and allows for their age groups to excel at appropriate tasks and projects.

Our ECE programs have qualified teachers and assistance who work hard to provide a curriculum and experiences that are developmentally appropriate for the age group they are working with.  There are a variety of activities that happen throughout the day that seek to engage each child in enriching explorations. We present activities through a curriculum framework that is designed to enhance the development of each child in the following areas: Social/Emotional Development, Physical Development, Children's Gross and Fine Motor skills, Language Development, and much more.

A variety of hands-on experiences and choices are offered on a daily basis: Creative art expression, drama and imaginative play, music and movement, literacy and story time, and manipulatives.  Also included in the day is snack and lunch, along with nap and quieter times.  The snacks have fresh and organic fruits and vegetables, along with vegetarian lunches.    We aim to provide healthy food choices to enhance and promote good health habits and growth.

Hopefully these wonderful pictures, many taken by Marina @ MCMD Photography, showed you a glimpse into the days at St. Luke.  Everyday day is different and we hope this glimpse gave you an understanding of St. Luke.  We will be highlighting another program soon, so check back frequently.
