Earth Day 2017

Earth day is celebrated around the world and by more than 192 different countries.  Many schools find ways to include this holiday into their lesson plans and activities.  Here at Vermont Hills we did the same with our different programs.  Earth day was April 22nd this year and we are highlighting our St. Andrews Facility for this post.   They had some amazing projects planned and the kids even got dirt on their hands.

Students got the opportunity to learn how to plant various flowers in planters located outside.  The teacher assisted them in digging the right size hole then covering the roots up with dirt.  For many kids this was the first time they had ever helped with simple gardening.

While outside they were able to collect items from nature surrounding them to create beautiful sun catchers.   This brought the outside indoors.  These were hung in the windows to showcase the wonderful array of colors that can be found around us in nature.

There were also several art projects that involved painting both indoor and outside.   Sometimes taking a simple activity and bringing it outside allows the children to feel closer to nature.

Hopefully your family was able to enjoy Earth Day! Stay tuned for more fun and activities.
