Winter Down Days at VHFLC

As any local parent will tell you, down days are not uncommon during the winter months, and at VHFLC we see this as a great opportunity to embark on some new large-scale endeavors. With care lasting all day instead of during our regular before and after-school hours, teachers and students have the special opportunity to spend an extended period of time with projects and themes.

Recently at Woodstock elementary, kids spent some time erecting massive marble mazes, completing puzzles, and putting the finishing touches on an epic 'Snow People Village' (there are snow women here too!). Perhaps in an effort to rile Old Man Winter from his quiet fog – no doubt in order to summon a school-stopping blizzard – this wintry display was an elaborate one, filled with all possible interpretations of the words 'snow men'.

Encompassing dioramas, drawings, snowflakes, and snow men made of everything from marshmallows and Fruit Loops to felt, cotton balls, foam, and paper, this magical village is proof that a little creativity and determination really can go a long way!
